Sarasota Sailing Squadron offers some of the best sailing on Florida’s West Coast and we are happy to offer a venue for One Design racing. Every year around mid March, One Design fleets from all over the USA and Canada escape the winter's chill and participate in the “One Design Midwinters”, an event that has been going for almost 25 years. Back then, Andy Hodgeson and Jim Barr were spending back-to-back weekends running individual One Design regattas, often for small fleets of 10 boats or less. Then, one day, following a discussion during a snack of coffee and donuts, they decided to combine all the One Design fleets the following year into one grand regatta, thus the Sarasota One Design Midwinters was born.
Since that day the SSS has hosted fleets including E Scow, MC Scow, International Canoe, Daysailer, Albacore, S2 7.9, VX One, Windmill and Flying Scot, I-20, Laser and Viper 640.
